Col is the Head of Science and the Head of Professional Learning at St Philip’s Christian College in Port Stephens. He has spent 35 years in education, both in New South Wales public schools in Western Sydney and in independent schools in Sydney, Newcastle and Port Stephens. He also spent 2 years working with the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Col has marked HSC Biology and Chemistry papers and has held previous roles as a pilot marker and senior marker. Col completed his Master of Science in 1995 and Doctor of Philosophy in 2017. He has presented at science teacher and technology integration conferences in Sydney and Dubai, and was a previous convener of the Association of Independent Schools (AIS) Science Professional Learning Advisory Council. He is currently involved in the AIS Experienced Teacher Inquiry Project, and is a member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute NSW Chemical Education Group. He is married to Jess, has three adult children and two grandchildren, and devotes some of his spare time to a burgeoning YouTube channel providing videos for flipped and blended learning.
