ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tom Hubble teaches Engineering Geology and Introductory Geology classes to undergraduate students and Rock Engineering to postgraduate students at the University of Sydney; he has developed primary and secondary school curricula for the NSW Board of Studies and Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority. Tom is involved in the CAPSTAN program which trains postgraduate Marine Science students aboard the CSIRO’s deepwater research vessel RV Investigator and has served as an Associate Dean and Prodean in the Faculty of Science between 2004 and 2017.

Chris has taught Science in NSW schools since 1981. His academic education included applied biology, Earth science, Science education and learning with technology. He is a former Head of a Science Department and Head of eLearning. Chris has experience in curriculum development, syllabus writing and assessment. He particularly likes teaching multidisciplinary Science and is an experienced teacher of Earth and Environmental Science and Physics.

Steven McClean has a B. App. Sc.(Geology) from UTS and a M. App. Sc. (Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology) from UNSW. He worked as an Exploration Geologist from 1978 to 1985. He has taught Geology to first and second year University (at UTS); and Earth and Environmental Science to HSC since 1985 at Barker College, Kogarah Marist High School, Marist Sister’s College, Knox Grammar School (as both 2IC and Head of Science), The Perse School (Cambridge) and his current position is at The Pittwater House Schools. He is a member of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) and the Australian College of Education. He has presented papers at GSA conferences across the last 20 years and is a regular book reviewer for the GSA.

Susan Filan is Head of Environmental Education at Abbotsleigh in Sydney. She received her BA (summa cum laude) in Biological Sciences from Mount Holyoke College and MA in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology from Harvard University. Susan worked in medical research before gaining her Grad. Dip. Ed (Secondary Science) from Macquarie University and is an experienced teacher of Earth and Environmental Science. She has been involved in curriculum writing and has authored textbook chapters for 7–10 Science. Susan is a STANSW Council Member.
