Suitable For: New Zealand
The teacher's resource is an annotated edition of He Rauemi Akonga (student's textbook) combined with He Pukapuka Mahi (student's workbook). It is designed for reference and classroom use by teachers and for self-paced learning by students.

Answers, sometimes with alternatives, are given in red within the various exercises. In the textbook, English translations are given underneath the Hei Mahi instructions. "Whakarongo mai" exercises have an additional reference section that includes the audio transcript, along with scripts for teacher's instructions if the audio version is not being used.

Ian Cormack (Ngäti Mamoe, Ngäi Tahu) draws on decades of experience as a teacher, writer, editor and translator of Mäori for the design of this series. As an adult he has also learned Greek, Italian, German, French, Mandarin and Russian, as well as Mäori. His own learning has put him totally in tune with the needs of other language learners. He is a Mäori Language Commission-qualified interpreter and translator of Mäori.

Te Mātāpuna has a fresh new redesign for today’s learners of Te la Reo. Te Ia Reo (The Current of Language) is a lively course for learning and teaching Maori. Te Ia Reo is written primarily for secondary school students, but it can be used equally well in senior primary school classes, in tertiary institutions and with adult students. Te Mātāpuna (The Source) is the first level and assumes that the student has little or no previous experience of the Maori language. It is built on a gradual step by step process of learning the language. Each level consists of three basic resources – a student textbook, a student workbook and a teacher resource with downloadable audio.

Te Mātāpuna has a fresh new redesign for today’s learners of Te la Reo. This He Pukapuka Mahi (Workbook) for Te Mātāpuna is made up of 25 assignments — five for each of the first five chapters of the Rauemi Akonga (Textbook). The assignments reinforce the vocabulary and structures introduced in the textbook. The first of each cluster consists of several word puzzles. In between there are a variety of exercises such as: • matching questions and answers • finding the right word or phrase from a list to match pictures • creating conversations from a list of sentences • making up answers to questions either from information in pictures or from the questions themselves. The assignments have been designed to be worked through by students on their own, but can be used for work in pairs, or in a group.
