Overview
Te Mātāpuna has a fresh new redesign for today’s learners of Te la Reo.
This He Pukapuka Mahi (Workbook) for Te Mātāpuna is made up of 25 assignments — five for each of the first five chapters of the Rauemi Akonga (Textbook). The assignments reinforce the vocabulary and structures introduced in the textbook. The first of each cluster consists of several word puzzles. In between there are a variety of exercises such as:
• matching questions and answers
• finding the right word or phrase from a list to match pictures
• creating conversations from a list of sentences
• making up answers to questions either from information in pictures or from
the questions themselves.
The assignments have been designed to be worked through by students on their own, but can be used for work in pairs, or in a group.
Ian Cormack (Ngäti Mamoe, Ngäi Tahu) draws on decades of experience as a teacher, writer, editor and translator of Mäori for the design of this series. As an adult he has also learned Greek, Italian, German, French, Mandarin and Russian, as well as Mäori. His own learning has put him totally in tune with the needs of other language learners. He is a Mäori Language Commission-qualified interpreter and translator of Mäori.
