ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Darren McPartland has been teaching since 1990, and has been a Head of Department in WA, NT, Vic and ACT. At present he is Head of Physical and Health Education at Christ Church Grammar School. Darren has been a strong advocate of the new PE Studies Course in WA, where he has had a number of jobs with the Curriculum Council including moderator and marker. In 2007 Darren organised a very successful PD day at Christ Church for teachers of the new course, where he brought over experts from Melbourne and presented at a number of sessions himself.

Adrian Pree has taught Physical Education for 19 years and has been involved in writing assessments for the Secondary Education Authority (now the Curriculum Council of Western Australia). He has been Head of Physical Education at St Mark’s Anglican Community School for 13 years and has also taught in the United Kingdom. Adrian has been heavily involved in developing local resources that directly benefit the students in his care, specifically in Outdoor Education, Risk Management, Sport, and Martial Arts.

Robert Malpeli has been teaching senior physical education for over 20 years. In that time, Robert has held roles as State Chairperson and exam assessor for PE and has delivered ongoing staff professional development for ACHPER. Recently, Robert was a member of the VCE Physical Education review board that developed the 2006 Study Design. He has co-authored numerous texts and developed a range of teacher and student resource packages in Physical Education. He is a senior teaching fellow at the University of Ballarat and currently teaches at Balwyn High School.

Amanda Telford is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at RMIT University. Previously a Deputy Head of School (Learning & Teaching) and Associate Dean (Education), Amanda has more than a decade of experience as a Program Director of the Health and Physical Education degrees at both RMIT University and Federation University. She has also had experience as a company director of an organisation consisting of a network of more than 4500 health and physical educators. Amanda has exceptionally strong links with industry across the education, sport and health communities and sectors. She has been an advisor for state and federal governments within health and physical education and a State examiner. Amanda has won numerous teaching awards in addition to being co-author on multiple national award winning educational textbooks. She has a strong background in learning and teaching and is known for her vision to provide leadership to the teaching profession for both pre- and in-service teachers in Australia. Her research focus examines the influence of family, teachers, pedagogies and school environments on youth physical activity behaviour and wellbeing.
